Finding Stories in the Family Album

If you are anything like me, then you can spend hours looking through photos. But how do we just choose a few and see the story behind the images. To try and make this easier for myself, I have tried different approaches, making collages, making photo books for others, sending just a couple of photos to family and realising that everyone has a particular experience when looking at the same photo.

I have explored photo essays, choosing no more than 10 photos and captioning them can help focus a path with a selection of photos.

I commenced a family history course to develop my skills in researching family and joining the dots of finding a story.

Maybe you are the one that is the keeper of the family photographs? As an artist who also has an interest in photography, I have also dappled with restoring old photographs,

Then there are the diaries, how do we whittle down a whole array of diaries into smaller anecdotes or stories, we can share?

The thing is I love the written word, on paper, not just digitalised. the paper itself feels like it has been touched by others close to me. I now feel like I am rambling on a bit, but if you too are the keeper of memories, and wish to connect then send me  a message on my facebook page or via email.

The hills hoist washing line is an installation artwork I created. It was part of an exhibition for the Northcliffe Centenary at the Painted Tree Gallery. My artwork is titled, "Stories of Ourselves Under the Washing Line".

Kind regards, Carmen
